Storage Area Network (SAN) - Storage Consolidation

Businesses are constantly requiring more and more storage to back-up company files, e-mail, databases and application data. This is driving costs upwards and as traditionally storage is attached to individual servers this has led IT teams to have to back up, repair and manage multiple distributed storage devices to ensure that critical data remains available to the business.

Qualcom’s Storage Area Network (SAN) solutions help reduce the complexity of configuration, management and back-up of your data reducing your capital expenditure on data storage and your operational costs.

We’re experts in this field with established partnerships with the leading storage consolidation providers such as HP, EMC and IBM. Our Professional Services team can design and deploy a storage solution that meets your business needs now and as they evolve and change.

Our understanding of Managed Services ensures that any Storage Area Network solution, we deploy, will benefit from our emphasis on quality and customer satisfaction. We’ll provide the best advice and support so that the most appropriate operational management is in place either via your in-house IT team, our Managed Services team or a combination of both.

What is Storage Consolidation?

Storage consolidation allows you to centralise your data storage by uncoupling your storage from servers and placing it on a separate network which can be allocated on an ‘as-needed’ basis. This allows you to scale up or down and allows your IT team to provision storage quickly and easily when it’s required e.g. to support a new business offering, a seasonal increase in an e-commerce application.

Storage consolidation also enables you to take advantage of Server Virtualisation which has been proven to reduce both operational and capital expenditure for businesses.

How Can Storage Consolidation Benefit your Business?

Reduced Capital Investment (CAPEX)
Consolidated storage allows improved utilisation of storage capacity, due to its flexibility. With server attached storage, resources are often stranded; consolidated storage provides the opportunity to use a higher percentage of disk capacity therefore allowing you to provision more storage for less cost.
Reduced Operational Overheads (OPEX)
All storage resources can be administered using a single intuitive administration interface allowing easier provisioning of storage and back-up of data.
Improved Reliability
A key benefit of storage consolidation is its flexibility and the ability for you to quickly and easily adjust storage provision for demanding applications and to lower levels when less is needed.
Improved Availability
Storage system components are engineered for availability, thus extending reliability and availability to a high degree. A correctly configured SAN has no single point of failure offering the highest level of resilience.
